Ne-Yo has spoken out about Conor Maynard saying he could be this generation's Marvin Gaye.
In an interview with the Daily Star, the ‘Closer’ singer revealed how he is "trying to revitalise Motown by making sure quality is a staple. It’s not just about money, they want icons”.
The 29-year-old singer recently became the Vice-President of the legendary Motown Records, and is on a mission to find more soul ‘greats’ such as the likes of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.
Admitting that it's a struggle to unearth the real stars that even come close to those legends past:
"Who was the last real icon to come out of the music industry?"
"Everybody thought it was going to be Lady Gaga, but where is she now, what’s going on with her?"
Ne-Yo found out about Maynard through YouTube, and the pair have since recorded a duet titled ‘Turn Around’.
The ‘Beautiful Monster’ singer went into more detail about Maynard’s talent:
"Conor is amazing, he has that talent, the potential of those guys like Marvin and The Temptations.
"His tone is insane. It’s really, really, rare that I come across a person that has a tone I wish I had."
‘Turn Around’ became the third consecutive top ten single from Maynard’s album Contrast.
