One Direction are currently ahead of Rihanna in the race for next week's UK number one single.

The competition is tight, with One Direction's new single 'Live While We're Young' having sold just 250 copies more than the Bajan singer's latest release 'Diamonds'.

Both One Direction and Rihanna's latest releases have already topped 50,000 sales in the opening weeks and look like reaching 100,000 by the time the final chart is published on Sunday.

Last week's nunber one single was Psy's 'Gangnam Style' which has spent six weeks at number one.

Over on the album chart, Mumford and Sons have slipped to number two with Babel, whilst Muse could well be on course for a fourth UK chart-topper with their sixth studio album The 2nd Law.

Chart numbers three, four and five are all non-movers with Pink, The Killers and Jonathan and Charlotte in successive order.
