Miley Cyrus has called for Twitter to take actions on making the site safer after receiving a number of death threats and abusive messages.
The former Disney star found her Oscars night ruined after she found herself targeted by several abusive Twitterers. However Miss Cyrus, gutsy lady that she is, wasn't afraid to take a stand against the cyber bullies.
One of the tweets, issued by someone hiding behind a derogatory twitter handle, was extremely worrying in its content:
"We want Miley the wh*re dead ! She's a f**king s**t!"
Ouch. Even Chris Brown didn't have it that bad.
Miley, unlike other stars before her, did not embark on a personal attack against the user, but did issue a message to Twitter as a whole, asking those running the site to make it a safer environment:
“I wont tolerate someone telling me 2 die. I think Twitter needs to take some responsibility and make it a safe environment!”
We admire Miley's maturity. Thank goodness her fans have got her back; they quickly caught wind of the exchange and asked followers to block and report @thecyrusslut and @WeHateMiley:
“Everyone go BLOCK & REPORT @thecyrusslut! Do it for Miley!”
Is anyone else concerned by the rising number of death hoaxes and threats issued on Twitter? Perhaps Miley is right and new guidelines should be put in place.
