Aretha Franklin has expressed her disgust at the media for reporting false speculation that she was uninvited from Whitney Houston's funeral.
A US tabloid kick-started speculation that the legendary singer had got on the wrong side of Houston's mother Cissy over comments made in a television interview.
This was despite the fact that the 'Respect' singer had already said in a statement that her absence from Saturday's service was down to her need to rest her leg.
In a statement she said: "People are getting their information from the wrong source. The intelligent and the thoughtful thing to do would be to respect and have some sensitivity to the moment. Cissy does not need ridiculous speculation and neither do I - particularly at this time.
"Also, with respect to the Today Show, my entire statement was pre-taped. However, the Today Show did not air the part of my statement, which said, 'This is no reflection on Cissy or Nippy [Whitney]'s upbringing."
She had said in the televised interview: "Parents really have to talk to their children before they leave home. They have to make sure that when they leave home they have all the right things."
