Nicki Minaj has encouraged her younger fans to abstain from sex.

The star was speaking alongside Ricky Martin on Good Morning America to promote the Mac Aids Fund Viva Glam campaign, which raises money to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS.

She said she wanted teenage boys and girls to be fully aware of the possible negative consequences of sex before engaging in it.

"I have such a young fan base. I wanted them to start now protecting themselves," she said. "I want them to start now being smart.

"I want them to abstain first of all, that's the best decision that I can give them, because I love them so much and I don't want them to ruin their lives."

Nicki is currently in the bad books of certain catholic groups following her controversial performance at the Grammys on Sunday (February 12).
