In a performance that seems to have divided everyone who saw it, Madonna put on a show to remember for American Football fans and more than 100 million television viewers yesterday evening.
Her lavishly staged Super Bowl halftime show was themed around Ancient Egypt, with Madonna (the first female headliner since the infamous Janet Jackson incident) being carried into the stadium by muscle-bound gladiators.
Dressed in a fusion of Cleopatra regalia, black cheerleader garb and some seriously sexy over-the-knee boots, Madonna opened up with a rousing rendition of "Vogue", dancing across a well-lit stadium floor of animated magazines. Lady with an attitude!
But it didn't stop there; performing troupe Cirque du Soleil helped to get the crowd in the mood, and LMFAO joined the Queen of Pop for a rendition of "Music". Nicki Minaj and M.I.A casually dropped by to join in with the cheerleader-themed "Give Me All Your Luvin'," from Madonna's latest CD.
The dance routine picked up, with bleachers and a marching band pounding out a medley of classic Madge hits "Open Your Heart" and "Express Yourself," before Cee Lo Green (dressed in shimmering black robes) hit the stage for a fantastic chorus-accompanied version of "Like a Prayer".
And then she disappeared in a beam of light and puff of smoke, as the words "WORLD PEACE" bedecked the stage!
It was utterly mad, but we kind of loved it at the same time. How did YOU enjoy Madonna's Super Bowl halftime performance?
