Big In 2012: Oh My!

Example is their mentor and they're here to have fun...

By David Renshaw on Friday 6th January 2012

Join us as we introduce you to the ten acts we think will be illuminating the pop world with their brilliant music, stunning performances and huge debut albums in 2012. Last, but by no means least, are the fun loving, girl powered pop duo Oh My!

PopDash: How has 2011 been for you? What were the highlights?

Jade: We started off with a schools tour at the start of this year and we've just finished The Saturdays tour, so it's kind of a big step up and super busy. We're really looking forward to next year.

PopDash: What are the differences between a school tour and touring with The Saturdays?

Alex: The size of the audience obviously and also I think it's nice with the arena tour that everyone's there because they kind of love music; so they're up for hearing new music. The only downside is that they're obviously there to see, primarily, the main act which is a challenge but a good challenge for us.

PopDash: How have you found that step up, playing the big shows?

Alex: The biggest one we've played so far was in Manchester and it was massive. They are really big and we have to make sure we get the audience involved and they chat along with us. It's good to see them standing up and stuff.

PopDash: What has been the main thing you have learned so far would you say?

Jade: That's a hard one. Learning to deal with all the bad comments on Twitter. At first we kind of made the mistake of kind of listening to what people say. To a certain extent if people are willing to give you positive criticism then we really do take that on board but there's no point in getting bogged down with negative people. We just have to kind of focus on all the positives and just keep working.

PopDash: Looking into 2012 what's the plan? What have you got coming up?

Jade: Hopefully new singles and we're planning for an album. Then hopefully to do our own tour and a support tour.

PopDash: What sort of stage is the album at?

Alex: We've got loads of different songs. We've just got to sort it out with the team and discuss which songs would work best on the album – then just finishing them all off. We've got a lot of options, it's just about getting them to be the best they can be.

PopDash: Do you have an idea about when it might be with us?

Jade: We were saying early in the year but I don't know now. I think we'll probably wait until the Oh My! core has grown a little bit and then bring it out properly. It will probably be at the end of the year now I think.

PopDash: Can you briefly explain Example's role within what you do. What's his involvement been within the album and the songs?

Jade: We met Example when he came into the studio and he just started writing songs for us. I think he's got about five or six tracks that he's written for us that hopefully go onto the album. We're still yet to decide. He's more of like big brother, we don't call him Example, and he's kind of like a mentor as well in some ways as well.

PopDash: When can people come out and see you next?

Alex: In the new year hopefully. We'll have to see what happens. Hopefully we'll be doing a lot of gigs in London and maybe another supports tour, so wherever that may take us.

PopDash: Is there anything in your diary that you're particularly excited about for 2012?

Jade: There's a new song, 'Bad Date', to come out. Our next song that we've been working on and one we've been performing on The Saturdays' tour so it will be exciting to get some feedback on that.

PopDash: Is 'Bad Date' about a particular experience of either of yours?

Jade: It's more of a general, girl power song about bad dates rather than a specific experience.

PopDash: What's the worst date either of you have been on?

Jade: We've never had a mega bad one really. Apart from going to a really bad restaurant. A bad date for me would be going to Pizza Hut. I worked at Pizza Hut once and now I hate it. If you really like Pizza Hut you should never come with me.

PopDash: Is that the type of sacrifice you've had to make for pop success; to never eat Pizza Hut ever again?

Jade: Yeah, Dominoes is alright, just not Pizza Hut.

PopDash: Have you got a tip of your own for next year?

Alex: Rizzle Kicks will do well next year. They started off doing it at the end of the year so hopefully 2012 will be a big year for them. We like how they've got a similar vibe to us. The boy version. If that makes sense.

PopDash:You could collaborate with them.

Alex: It would be good, that would be cool. It would be pretty fun I think it would be hilarious.
