Kelis has confirmed that the racist abuse she reported earlier this week happened in Spain, not the UK as she originally stated.
The 'Bounce' star was on her way back from Bestival, where she had been performing, when she reported a string of abuse she had faced from a man at an airport. Tweeting at the time, she said: "He called me kunta kinte and ranted and raved some more."
However, she has now clarified that the abuse took place in Spain but was from a British man. “I took a flight from gatwick back to spain so for those fact checkers that is approx 2 n a half to 3 hour flight.
“ I landed in spain and that's when fat pink faced british guy who was on the plane with me called me a slave and to call him sir. It was at passport control.”
This comes as Mayor Of London Boris Johnson announced he was looking into the case, Tweeting Kelis himself to say: “Heard about the treatment you received at a UK airport. Want you to know this is not typical. I’m appalled & I’m on the case.”
Kelis is still, understandably, angry and we hope whoever is responsible is suitably punished.
