Roll Deep have had unrivalled success in 2010. Their two singles 'Good Times' and 'Green Light' have both gone to Number One and now they are hooking up with Strictly Come Dancing star Alesha Dixon to release their new single 'Take Control'. We rang up Manga from the band to chat to him about all things Roll Deep.
PopDash: Tell us all about your new single 'Take Control'...
It's the best single ever! No actually, it's called Take Control and it's the third part of the Roll Deep trilogy that started with 'Good Times' and 'Green Light'.
PopDash: How does this track fit into the trilogy?
Well 'Good Times' is all about the rave and going out, 'Green Light' is when you meet someone and the 'Take Control' is when you get home and party till the sun comes out.
PopDash: So it's a song about sex?
Yeah, basically.
PopDash: Alesha Dixon is the guest star on 'Take Control'. How did you manage to get her involved?
She just kept hassling us and ringing up all the time so eventually we just gave in and let her record the chorus. No, I'm just joking. We've known Alesha for ages and needed someone to come do this vocal and thought of her. Luckily for us it worked out very, very well.
PopDash: Are you a fan of Strictly Come Dancing or do you prefer Alesha's Mis-Teeq days?
I've never watched that show actually, I don't really watch TV at all. I love dancing though so maybe I should watch it.
PopDash: Your album is due in November, what can we expect from it?
It's got everything you'd want from an album. It caters for both the people who knew Roll Deep from before we had Number Ones and those who have only just got into us.
PopDash: Would you say it's a party album?
I wouldn't actually. There are tracks for the club on there but then we have a song like 'The One' which is all about how we've dealt with the negative aspects of our success and the way people have treated us since we broke through. We've got aspirational songs on there too, talking about reaching for the stars. A lot of us have family's too so we have written songs about our family lives as well.
PopDash: What do you think the difference is between the present day Roll Deep and say, four years ago when you released your album 'Rules and Regulations'?
It's just the level we're playing at now. The difference in how much we get recognised and the areas where we are popular now is immense. If you go anywhere in the country now people know Roll Deep and it was never the case like that before.
PopDash: Do you feel like you guys maybe paved the way for the success of people like Tinie Tempah and Professor Green?
I wouldn't say paved the way but Roll Deep were the first people to set up the scene that those guys came from. We just got the opportunities early and made the most of it. Those guys have worked hard to be where they are today so they deserve it.
PopDash: Have you got plans to tour the new album any time soon?
Yes! We will be on the road in February next year. We want all the fans to buy our album in November, learn all the words to the songs and then come see us in February to sing along. It's called Winner Stays On tour and it's going to be mad.
Roll Deep release 'Take Control' this week. Their album 'Winner Stays On' follows on November 8th.
